Mother of a local reporter laid to rest here on

GUJAR KHAN: Mother of a local reporter and finance secretary of Potohar Press Club, Gujar Khan, laid to rest here on Monday. Javed Malik’s mother expired on Sunday night. Her Namaz-e-Janaza was largely attended by people from all sections of society. Those who attended funerary rites of the deceased included former provincial minister Chaudary Muhammad Riaz, former District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas, former town nazim Chaudary Muhammad Azeem, SP Ahmad Hassan Chohan, Raja Javed Ashraf, circulation manager (Ausaf) Malik Mukhtar, Incharge correspondents (Express) Agha Yasir, DSP Mirza Jameel Baig, SHO Mirza Zaman Raza, XEN IESCO Kaleem, social notables Raja Tahir Kiani, Raja Abdul Aziz, Nazims UC Yahaya Faiz, Sardar Azhar Shehzad, Raja Abdul Ghafoor Kiani, Qazi Agha Noman and others.

Robbers loot & plunder passengers at will

GUJAR KHAN: At least five armed dacoits blocked a link road near a village about 15 kilometres from here , mugged & looted passengers and made off with the snatched-away valuables worth thousands of rupees and cash on the night between Saturday and Sunday . The incident which occurred in the limits of police station, Jatli , has gripped the residents of the area in fear and panic. The police reached the site of the loot and plunder well after the highwaymen had safely disappeared. According to details, at least five armed robbers blocked link road near village Dera Muslim by putting up logs of trees across the road at about 9:30 pm on Saturday. They intercepted vehicles and looted passengers and injured those who tried to put up resistance .The robbers continued to loot the travellers for about one hour. Those who were looted included Faisal Farooq (Rs. 5000, a gold ring and cell phone), Muhmmad Jabbar (Rs. 8000 and cell phone), Hassan Akhtar (Rs.
4500 and cell phone), Zohaib (Rs. 8000 and cell phone),Qasim (Rs.600), Ali Asghar (Rs. 3500 and cell phone) and Faisal Mehmood (Rs. 16000 and cell phone). These passengers were on their way to attend a marriage ceremony at village Dera Muslim. Jatli police reached the spot way after the looters had escaped on their motorbikes. Jatli police have not reportedly registered an FIR of the incident till the filing of this report.

Journalists condemn Dina police' s tactics

GUJAR KHAN: Journalists from here have condemned the coercive measures by Dina police who have registered an FIR against two reporters of Dina town for filing truthful stories of corruption of health department. General secretary of Potohar Press Club Chaudary Farzand Ali , members Malik Javed, Malik Asad , Ahmad Nawaz Khokhar, Kaleem ullah Bhatti, Jamshaid Ali Qazi Kamran and others termed these tactics as amounting to gagging the freedom of press. They threatened to launch strong protests if the false FIR was not withdrawn .
